Child Welfare

Bransgore Youth FC acknowledges its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of every child and young person who has been entrusted to its care and is committed to working to provide a safe environment for all members.

A child or young person is anyone under the age of 18 engaged in any club football activity. We subscribe to the Football Associations child protection and best practice policy and procedures and endorse and adopt the policy statement contained in that document.

All coaches attending the F.A. Level 1 coaching course are trained in the best practices in ensuring a child’s welfare is not put at risk.

All Current Bransgore Youth FC members with direct access to children and young people will be required to complete a CRB Enhanced Disclosure via The FA CRB Unit.

Bransgore Youth FC has appointed a Club Welfare Officer (CWO) in line with the FA’s role profile and required completion of the child protection workshop. The post holder will be involved with designated personal training provided by The FA.

The CWO is the first point of contact for all club members and parents or guardians regarding concerns for the welfare of any child or young person. They will liaise directly with the CFA CPO and will be familiar with the procedures for referring any concerns. They will also play a proactive role in increasing the awareness of poor practice and abuse amongst club members.

Role of our Child Welfare Officer (CWO)

The role of the CWO, can be summarised as follows:

  • To promote support and encourage the benefits of the Child Protection and Best Practice Education and awareness program
  • To support the club in identifying those who require a Criminal Records Bureaux Check.
  • To promote the use of CRB disclosures being used by the club as a way of safeguarding participants
  • To encourage the club to discuss and implement the FA’s Child Protection and Best Practice Guidelines on the use of images, travel arrangements and competitions.
  • To encourage the club to use the FA Child Protection and Best Practice Guidelines on the recruitment of volunteers and requesting back up references.
  • To seek advice from the NSPCC/FA Helpline on circumstances of a Child Protection urgency
  • To seek advice from Social Services or the Police force in the event of a Child Protection emergency.
  • To receive and collate Child Protection and poor practice concerns and take action where needed in accordance with FA protocols and procedures.
  • To ensure individuals reporting concerns remain informed in line with the FA Case Management protocols
  • To record, and securely retain all Child Protection and poor practice paper-work in accordance with FA policies
  • To ensure that the FA Child Protection Team and County Officials are kept informed
  • To develop relationships with league Child Protection Officers, Social services and the Police.
  • To attend CRB and Child Protection events run by the County FA and the FA Child Protection Unit.
  • To advocate and support clubs in implementing the use of CRB disclosures.
  • To promote the awareness of the FA’s Child Protection Best Practice Guide.
